Lawrence is a Business Executive, Bestselling Author, and former Masters World Champion in the Triple Jump.
Lawrence is especially proud of his father’s Military Service and was educated at The Duke of York’s Royal Military School, where he was Head Pupil before going on to study Business at Loughborough University [1999-2003].
Thereafter, Lawrence started a career in business that has now exceeded two decades, spanning across a number of international organisations and across multiple industries [Retail, Hospitality & Financial Services]. Namely, Lawrence has been an executive for Aldi, Tesco, Barclays and PizzaExpress. Following several years as a Director for Aldi, Lawrence became a Retail Director for Tesco, was Chair of their Armed Forces Network, and subsequently co-founded and launched JACK’S in 2018; it was Tesco’s first new food retail format in over 20 years! Thereafter, he was a Managing Director in Barclays and joined PizzaExpress as Chief Operating Officer in 2023.
Lawrence is especially passionate about athletics, and the positive impact the sport can have on individuals and society. Having represented Great Britain and becoming Triple Jump Masters World Champion [M35] back in 2016, Lawrence has benefited greatly from athletics throughout his life, and he wishes to give back to the sport. He co-wrote and published a best-selling book to critical acclaim in 2023 called ‘TRIPLE JUMP TRAILBLAZERS’ – it sold in over 30 countries and was cited by World Athletics as an “excellent tome”. The book shone a light on legendary athletes from the past who have helped pave the way for the present [and the future], by illuminating their incredible stories and creating a fair method for appraising and ranking all Track & Field athletes throughout history [via The Harvey-Benns Method®].
Away from work and sport, Lawrence is happily married, lives in Cambridgeshire, and has further interests in travel, history, feature films and live music.
When asked about his role and appointment to the Personal Best Foundation Board of Trustees Lawrence said:
"I've been fortunate enough to have Athletics in my life ever since primary school, without which, I would almost certainly have had a less fulfilled existence than the one I have been so fortunate to live to date; my appreciation and passion for the sport will therefore be life-long – it is an absolute privilege to contribute and amplify this message through the incredible work already being done by Personal Best Foundation; providing children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and communities with the opportunity to participate and achieve their Personal Best through the power of Athletics!"
We are very fortunate to have Lawrence join the Board of Trustees and look forward to working together.
