Driving Change: Citroën Powers After-School Athletics for Children
Together with Citroën UK, we’re helping more children discover the life-changing benefits of athletics through free inclusive after-school programmes.
The partnership brings athletics into primary schools in under-served communities where opportunities for physical activity can be limited. Children who might otherwise miss out now have access to fun, safe and inspiring ways to get active.
Making an Impact
In the first year, Citroën’s support is helping introduce more than 700 children to athletics-based activities across Coventry, Ellesmere Port and Rugby, breaking down barriers to activity and creating opportunities where they’re needed most.
A Partnership with Purpose
The programme focuses on schools in the top 20% of areas of deprivation, prioritising children most at risk of physical inactivity. At the heart of delivery is funetics, an England Athletics Programme developing fundamental movement skills while building confidence, friendships and enjoyment.
Connecting Communities
Through trusted local delivery partners, our 8-week structured athletics programmes give children a safe, fun and supportive space to develop movement skills, confidence and a love of being active.
Alongside the sessions for pupils, we invest in teachers, providing training and resources so that schools can continue offering athletics activities long after the programme ends. This ensures the benefits of the partnership are lasting and sustainable.
Creating Inclusive Opportunites
In May 2025, we kicked off the partnership with an inspiring launch event, joined by Paralympian and Personal Best Ambassador Hannah Cockroft CBE. Hannah celebrated the start of our after-school athletics programmes and shared her support for creating opportunities for children to enjoy sport, regardless of background or ability.
Her message highlighted the importance of making physical activity accessible and fun, and her presence helped set the tone for a partnership focused on impact, inclusion, and lifelong confidence through athletics.
